Home (photos from left to right)
Photo 1 & 2 There is something very personal about taking photographs at night; it relaxes me somehow. During the night, the theatrical qualities in photos are highlighted more strongly. These photos were taken at a location very near my home. Thurn/Tour & Taxis, in Molenbeek, which is currently undergoing a total metamorphosis. The site has a positive influence on the neighborhood. It stimulates diversity, it is a quiet, green place - an oasis almost - in this parallel world with too many cars and too much pollution and testosterone. In a way, it makes the world in Molenbeek expand a bit.
Photo 3 Cette grille, comme toute grille, sert à marquer un territoire. Le bloc de béton qui la maintient debout semble indiquer que la démarcation est sérieuse. Mais ils sont là, tous deux délaissés. Le monde change, les frontières aussi.
Photo 4 The bridge between Laken and Molenbeek is a place that offers spectacular views of Brussels's Manhattan-like skyline at night. It is a busy traffic junction across I often cycle, and I am always struck by the ugly and unimaginative blocks - New Jerseys, they are called - that are intended to outline a kind of bicycle lane. That bridge, roughly between the Maritime district in Molenbeek and Laken, contacts sharply with the elegance and rest of the park located beneath it. Brussels, are parallel worlds.
These series were made for BRUZZ, published in may 2017.
